On July 29, 2019, Judge Izotova imprisoned Yevgeny Kovalenko for two months. He was the first person involved in the Moscow Case, the criminal persecution of opposition activists who protested against the government’s refusal to register independent candidates for participation in the elections to the Moscow City Duma. According to investigators, the activist threw a garbage can at a Russian Guard officer, thereby “causing him physical pain and moral harm” by hitting his buttocks.
