SAFINA, Yulia Rinatovna was appointed to the post of criminal judge of the Basmanny District Court of Moscow by decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 1685 dated December 26, 2012.

Accused of:

Carrying out political repression using her official position.

Judge Yulia Safina participated in several high-profile criminal trials. In particular, she took part in the case against Eskerkhanov, the alleged accomplice in the murder of Boris Nemtsov, for contempt of court, as well as in the case against the former vice president of Rostelecom and co-owner of the National Telematic Systems company Alexei Nashchekin, former partner of Igor Rotenberg, the eldest son of Putin's closest associate Arkady Rotenberg. Since at least 2018, she has participated in politically motivated cases against the opposition, invariably siding with its persecutors.

In the fall of 2018, Judge Safina took part in cases related to the large-scale state anti-Ukrainian campaign. In September, she arrested him in absentia and put him on the international wanted list two Russian brothers, Ruslan and Marlen Misiratov, charged under Part 2 of Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Participation in the activities of an extremist organization). After the illegal annexation of the Crimean peninsula by the Russian Federation, the brothers became volunteers of the Right Sector movement, recognized as “extremist” in the Russian Federation, and also fought in eastern Ukraine in the Ukrainian volunteer battalions Crimea and Crimean Hundred.

In November 2018, Judge Safina extended the term of arrest to the former Minister of Transport and Communications of Ukraine Nikolai Rudkovsky, who was accused of assaulting the Russian embassy in Kyiv. The former chairman of the Socialist Party and one of the richest people in Ukraine threw a stone at the Russian embassy in Kyiv on June 14, 2014, which, according to investigators, caused the embassy damage of 14 million rubles.

In 2019, Judge Safina took part in the Moscow Case, criminal prosecution of activists who protested against the government’s refusal to register independent candidates to run in elections to the Moscow City Duma on July 27 and August 3. So, on August 9, 2019, she detained Danila Beglets. At a trial in the Moscow City Court on August 19, Danila Beglets said that on July 27 he was going to a business meeting, and at the exit from the metro he witnessed the officers of the Russian Guard detaining one of the protesters. The protester’s headphone fell out, and Danila picked it up and tried to give it back, after which he himself was detained. On September 3, judge of the Tverskoy district court Anatoly Belyakov sentenced Beglets to 2 years in a general regime colony under part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (use of violence against a government official).

On October 21, 2019, Safina extended the detention of activist Nikita Chirtsov. The 22-year-old Russian was detained in Belarus on August 28 after being put on the international wanted list. He was accused of allegedly pushing a police sergeant in the chest, causing him physical suffering. The Memorial Human Rights Organization recognizes Nikita Chirtsov as a political prisoner, as well as other defendants in the Moscow Case.

On November 13, 2019, judge Yulia Safina sent into custody the 46-year-old Alexei Veresov, who was detained for insulting the judge of the Tverskoy District Court Alexei Krivoruchko on social media. There are at least two more people involved in the case insulting this infamous judge, who is included in the Magnitsky Act’s list of human rights violators and the one who sentenced another person involved in the Moscow Case, actor Pavel Ustinov, to 3.5 years in prison. According to media reports, Veresov wrote his “threats” to judge Krivoruchko in the comments under a picture of Krivoruchko in one of the communities of Vkontakte.
